Event: 3rd Annual Battle at Boxwood

What: competitive fly fishing ONLY for trout (rainbow, brown, cutthrout, cutbow and brook) averaging 16"-22" and up to 30" on 3 miles of private water on the north branch of the South Platte River

Why: to support the charitable organization, Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing, which benefits recovering wounded US military veterans across North America.

When: August 17, 2013

Where: Boxwood Gulch Ranch, Shawnee CO (50 miles SW of DT Denver)

Cost: team sponsorship fee of $1500 includes one person to a full day of guided trout fishing, beverages, dinner/snacks and a fly-fishing gift bag, plus Sponsor provided signage if desired.

Format: One day of competition comprising of 10 four-man teams (each includes a professional guide, sponsor, sports or entertainment celebrity and a recovering injured or disabled veteran)...top 3 teams are determined by the team's total length of trout landed and get trophies/bragging rights!

I'm Steve Payne, a business executive and retired NHL player that spent 10 years with the MN North Stars (now the Dallas Stars). Supporting our military is very important to me, so I spend a lot of time doing so. With help from some generous, caring friends, I created the Battle at Boxwood event now in it's third year. The event supports the wonderful organization, Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing (PHWFF), by raising money and getting recovering wounded warriors on the water for a day of trout fishing with sports celebrities from the NHL, NFL and MLB. It takes place each August at the Boxwood Gulch Ranch in Shawnee, CO, which is owned/operated by Dan & Karen Mauritz.
