PHWFF Founder Ed Nicholson at La Plata’s meeting tonight

La Plata Program Meeting Tonight!

We will be tying the Green Weenie–sticking with what we would catch in the local waters near us (see link below). No experience necessary.

La Plata Program meets tonight, 6PM-8PM

April 30, 2018

Join us at the American Legion Harry Wilmer White Post 82 located at 6330 Crain Highway, La Plata, MD from (6PM-8PM). Larry Braswell will be teaching how to tie the “Clouser Minnow”  arguably the best fly ever for salt water.  As always, we will provide all the materials, tying tools and vises. If you have your own tying tools feel free to bring them.

Rainbow Warrior Fly at the next La Plata Meeting 4/16, 6PM

La Plata Program Meeting tonight, 5:30-7:00 pm

Join us at the American Legion Harry Wilmer White Post 82 in La Plata, MD. Don’t worry if you can’t make it by 5:30 pm. The doors are always open, so come on in!  Last week Assistant Program Lead, Larry Braswell, taught us how to tie the Cinnamon Toast Ant.  This was by far our most challenging yet! This week we will tie another version of an ant called Ken’s Crazy Ant.  This is a great dry fly to use for bream and in the surrounding ponds.  The video is below. Please take the time to watch it.

La Plata Program – Meeting on February 19th

New Project Healing Waters Program Launches in La Plata, MD!

January 11, 2018

A new Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing (PHWFF) program is starting right in our Headquarters’ backyard as part of our National Capital Region! Please join Assistant Operations Officer, Duke Davis on January 15, 2018 to learn how you can serve active military service personnel and disabled veterans through fly fishing activities and outings.

The first meeting will take place on January 15, 2018 at 6:00 pm.  All are welcome. Don’t worry if you don’t know anything about fly fishing. This is your opportunity to start the new year with a unique volunteer experience and give back to those who have served our country.

Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing is dedicated to the physical and emotional rehabilitation of disabled active military service personnel and disabled veterans through fly fishing and associated activities including education and outings.

The PHWFF program provides basic fly fishing, fly casting, fly tying and rod building classes, along with clinics for participants ranging from beginners who have never fished before, to those with prior fly fishing and tying experience who are adapting their skills to their new abilities. All fly fishing and tying equipment is provided to the participants at no cost. Fishing trips, both one day and multi-day, are also provided free of charge to participants.

PHWFF is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization incorporated in the State of Maryland and relies on Federation of Fly Fishers, Trout Unlimited, and independent fly fishing clubs to conduct the program at the DoD and Veterans Affairs facilities across the nation.
