McGuire VA Hospital Richmond VA Update

Our club, Fly Fishers of Virginia, is the group working with McGuire. We are just in the planning stages. Lots of things are happening.

We have a Kick off Meeting planned for July 14 at McGuire. Fly Tying will start in August. It was been agreed we will have two nights per month to start. If the need is great we will adjust as needed. Casting classes will follow. We have ample tying equipment and rods to get us started.

I sent request letters to the top fly shops in the state requesting donations of fly tying material. One has sent in a few items. Still early on the others.

Escatawba Farms, a very high end private trout location, www.escatawba.com , has agreed to provide fee access for our program.

Currently we have 12 fly tiers and 7 casters signed up to work with the Vets.

We have added a PHW section to our web page www.flyfishersofvirginia.org . This includes a Thanks section for companies and sportsmen that donate goods and services.

Fly Fisherman Magazine donated a nice supply of “Fly-Fishing Tactics", a great introduction to fly fishing. We have started to receive donations of books, magazines and CD's on fly fishing. We are building a library for the Vets at McGuire. There is a lot of excitement being generated with FFV getting involved with this wonderful program.
