April 27, 2023, Georgetown, Texas – We are pleased to announce the return of a Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing, Inc. (PHW) program in Georgetown, Texas. Re-established in March 2023, this dynamic program will serve to provide physical and emotional recovery and rehabilitation to the area’s Veterans and active duty military service members in-need.

The PHW program provides on-going basic fly fishing, fly casting, fly tying, rod building classes, and outings at no cost for Veterans in-need.

I have been a participant for a few years and a Volunteer for just over a year in North Carolina.  After moving back to Georgetown last year, I was disappointed to learn of the closing of the local programsays Georgetown Program Lead David Perez,After discussing with the San Marcos Program Lead and state leadership we decided it would be beneficial to re-start the local program. PHW can provide a great deal of comfort and support to local Veterans, and volunteering is a crucial way to give back to those that served their country.

At the heart of Project Healing Waters is our commitment to our Veterans to provide a pathway to resiliency along their own healing journeys. For us, it’s more than just fly fishing: it’s about connectedness and community, and time together on the water, at the tying vise, and at the rod-wrapping station do wonders for not only our Veterans but our volunteers and supporters as well. Rejuvenating a program and bringing it back into the fold with our 230+ programs across the country means improved access for Veterans in-need to a growing network of supportive fellow Veterans, volunteers, and supporters.

The Georgetown, TX program will meet the second Tuesday of each month at 6:30 pm at the M/SGT Ben D. Snowden VFW Post 8587, located at 1000 North College Street, Georgetown, TX 78626.  The program will also have a presence at Wednesday Night Fly Tying events with Living Waters Fly Fishing Shop in Round Rock, Texas, as well as monthly casting and fly fishing. demos at San Gabriel Park in Georgetown, TX. The program is supported by the San Gabriel Fly Fishers, who provide volunteer mentors and expert fly fishing knowledge and skills for the programs disabled veteran participants.

Interested volunteers and Veteran participants should contact PHW Georgetown, TX Program Lead David Perez at david.perez@projecthealingwaters.org
