On Saturday June 5th, the Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing Chico, CA program headed out to Digger Creek in Manton, CA in search of some rainbow trout.

Volunteer Pat Sleeper and Program Lead Pete Wiik hosted Veterans Ernie Flud and Lee Markos all day as they hit the water hard.

“Ernie and Lee fished hard from 8 A.M. until about 4 P.M.,” Wiik said. “They used 5wt rods, and sizes 14 and 16 snow cone midge patterns under indicators. Both improved their casting and fish fighting skills considerably. A great time was had by all!”

Although Ernie and Lee missed several strikes, they were still able to get about three or four in the net a piece.

I was showing Lee how to get a little more distance out of his cast, and immediately got tangled twenty-feet high in a tree behind us. I lost the entire rig, indicator and all!

Wiik would like to thank Chico Area Fly Fishers for assisting with this outing, and he can’t wait to get out there and do it again!
