d5eda199-932d-42df-b7dc-33c0bfec002dSyria, VA – Injured and disabled veterans from across the country will gather in Syria, Virginia on April 26-27 to participate in the 8th Annual Project Healing Waters 2-Fly Tournament at Rose River Farm.

Admiral John C. Harvey Jr., Virginia, Secretary of Veterans Affairs and Homeland Security, will be the keynote speaker for the Saturday night dinner at Rose River Farm.  Among his numerous accomplishments, ADM Harvey served as commanding officer of the destroyer David R Ray, the cruiser Cape St George, and commanded the Theodore Roosevelt Strike Group during Operation Iraqi Freedom.  In 2005, Admiral Harvey was appointed as the Navy’s Chief of Naval Personnel and immediately prior to his retirement from active duty in November, 2012, Admiral Harvey was

ADM Harvey and other special guests will address injured and disabled active military service members and disabled veterans, fly fishing professionals, volunteers and supporters during the pre-tournament dinner on Saturday night under the stars in picturesque Madison County, Virginia.

Participants in Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing (PHWFF) programs and alumni will also be on hand to discuss the challenges facing today’s service members, both physical and emotional, and the impact PHWFF has had on their recovery and transition.

Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing, Inc. is a 501 (c) (3) organization dedicated to the physical and emotional rehabilitation of disabled active military service personnel and veterans through fly fishing and fly tying education and outings. The 2-Fly Tournament is the organization’s headline event to raise awareness and funding for its 163 programs in 49 states.

The competition kicks off at 7:00 a.m. Sunday morning featuring PHWFF participants from across the nation.  Military/veteran participants will be partnered with a professional fly fishing guide from among the most notable names in the sport.
