e7a254da-a4a9-45fd-8914-60e449e1c1e6Conway Bowman, the man whose name has become synonymous with “extreme” fly fishing, will join the Fayetteville PHWFF Program at their 2017 Marabou Madness Event. The Marabou Madness event is intended to provide active participants of the PHWFF North Carolina and Mid-South regions with an opportunity to come together to meet and share information with other fly anglers and veterans while taking part in one of our favorite past times. This is the fourth such event that the Fayetteville program has hosted and will take place from March 3rd until March 5th of 2017. Attendees may arrive on March 3rd and can look forward to fly-tying demonstrations from several very accomplished fly-tyers on Saturday, March 4th. The Fayetteville program will offer participants with opportunity for fly-casting instruction and fishing for trout on the Pechmann Center’s stocked ponds on Sunday, March 5th.

Conway is the owner/operator of Bowman Bluewater, Southern California’s premier saltwater fly guide service and principal owner of the Ragged Edge Fly Fishing School. Conway currently holds an IGFA world record for redfish on the fly. He is also an avid shark angler who is dedicated to their conservation by raising for research and tagging programs involving the shortfin mako shark.
cd8ec41b-4f3c-4f4a-bcee-4f26a3978ca3Conway’s exploits have been chronicled in numerous  books to include; Tidelines, Fly Fishing for Sharks: an American Journey, 50 Places to Before You Die, and Fly Fishing Day Dreams.  He is also the author of the book,  Orvis Saltwater Fly Fishing 101 and a number of magazine articles in publications, such as; Field & Stream, Men’s Journal, Salt Water Sportsman, and Wild on the Fly. You may also recognize him as the host of one of several TV shows like; In Search of Fly Water (ESPN), Dollar Wise Fly (NBC), Pursuing the Catch (WFN), Fly Fishing the World (Sportsman Channel), The Outfitters presented by Ford Trucks (Sportsman Channel), 50 Places to fly Fish Before You Die (WFN), and World Fishing Journal (WFN).

Additionally, fundraising activities such as; raffles and auctions that will help the Fayetteville PHWFF in providing future fly-tying, and rod-building activities, and fly-fishing trips for our participants. The public may join the activities for a donation of $50 per person. The program will raffle a Jackson Cuda Kayak for which tickets may be purchased for $1 each. In addition, there will be a raffle for 3 different Yeti coolers, tickets for this raffle are also available for $1 each.

Lunch will be provided by Jersey Mike’s and Mission Barbecue will provide dinner for participants and donors. After dinner, there will an award ceremony were participants and volunteers from the Fayetteville Program and North Carolina region will be recognized for their dedication to supporting and assisting our disabled veterans and injured military participants through their hard work and contributions to Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing.

Participants are encouraged to bring their own tying equipment. However, tools and materials will be provided by the Pechmann Fishing Education Center for our new tyers. The Pechmann Center is located at 7489 Raeford Road Fayetteville, NC 28304.
