On the morning of January 22, 2017 the Viera, Florida Program met at Fox Lake Park in Titusville, Florida for a 6 hour Casting Clinic conducted by Capt. Jon Cave and Dave Johnson, both nationally recognized fly casting instructors. The group was met with adverse weather conditions, winds up to 25mph winds, which did not deter from the casting instruction, but did eliminate any hopes of fishing in the lake. In spite of the winds, casting instruction was enthusiastically pursued by the instructors and the veterans.
Fox Lake Park is a popular 31 acre scenic regional park in North Brevard County that offers terrific facilities for community gatherings and events. Situated on Fox Lake, with access to South Lake, the park is crisscrossed numerous channels ideal for exploration and angling opportunities. The facilities at Fox Lake Park, and the volunteers, gave all in attendance the chance to enjoy a great lunch of hamburgers, hot dogs, beans, and coleslaw topped off with key lime and cherry pie for desert while taking a break from casting instruction.
The group was also treated to special guests Andy and Lily Renzetti, of Renzetti Inc, who stopped by to visit with the group. The event wrapped-up around 2:30pm and it was obvious that the fly casting instruction had made a great impact – with each participant casting better than ever before. This great day was made possible thanks to the efforts of our instructors, Jon Cave and Dave Johnson, the volunteers and their spouses, and Marcia Ely (who organized the event and made the great lunch!).
