We had a sunny night on Wednesday at Chambers lake. Eight vets sharpened their casting skill without a lot of love from the fish! This situation provided an ample amount of ribbing – occasionally directed at the volunteers for being such mediocre guides! One thing vets and fly fishing volunteers have in common seems to be heightened skills of busting each other’s chops! It was wonderful!
West Chester Rotary threw a midday bash on Thursday they call the Pulled Pork Showdown. This new event was spearheaded by Jim Magee who became interested in Project Healing Waters about 6 months ago. He marshaled the considerable resources of his Rotary colleagues to make this happen.
Six Rotary contestants vied for the honor of being named Preeminent Pork Puller! Everyone ate piles of pork determinedly trying to decide who deserved this prestigious award. For many of us double or even triple sampling of the 6 entries were required. Hey somebody had to do it.
After the pork was consumed, the raffle prizes awarded and the fly fishing demonstration concluded, West Chester Rotary presented Project Healing Waters with over $1,800! This generous gift will be split between the three area Project Healing Waters Programs.
We pledge this gift will be put to very good use!
