Announcing the 4th Annual Lloyd Wicker Memorial 2-Fly Tournament
The 4th Annual Lloyd Wicker Memorial 2-Fly Tournament will take place this June 3, 2017 in Cotter, Arkansas on the famed White River. Lloyd Wicker was a great fly fisherman and supporter of PHWFF and the veterans we serve. Oklahoma Program Lead Chris Gorman shares some history and a bit about the tournament below:
“Lloyd Wicker was an extremely avid fly fisherman. His tying room had more fly tying material and supplies than most stores I have been in. In fact he had his own personal sales account manager at Bob Marriott’s who would contact him every time they received something new and he would order 4-6 of every color available of that new item. When he passed away suddenly and unexpectedly, his wife Gayla contacted me and asked if I could accept all of his fly fishing collection as a donation. I told her I would be glad to and went to her house to inventory and collect the donation. It was mind blowing how much stuff he had. Over the last 4 years, we have sold most of the rods and gear but we are still sitting on a storage unit full of tying materials. Each year we sell a little bit more to help raise money for our program. The donation has been very, very helpful. The tournament will start and end at Fulton’s Lodge on the White River. Lunch is provided to the entrants. We have prizes for 1st-3rd and there is also a raffle for prizes. We have several sponsors that make this happen each year; Dally’s Ozark fly fishers, Tailwaters fly Fishing Co, Backwoods, Orvis, Military sales and service company, Warrior Cafe, The Gadget Company and REI. All have donated items as prizes or as raffle items. “
Cost for the tournament is 40.00 per entry.
Registration: Fulton’s Blue Ribbon Trout Lodge 7:30am and rules at 7:45am.
Session 1: 8:00 am-11:59 am Session 2: 1:01pm-4:00 pm
Lunch will be provided by Warrior Cafe at Fulton’s Lodge at noon until 1:00pm
Awards: 4:30 pm-5:30 pm Prizes for 1st – 3 rd, total combined length of 2 fish from each session, morning and afternoon, will determine the winner. Tent camping sites will be available on-site, cabins on-site are booked but other lodging locally is available.
