Tournament Organizer and long-time PHWFF volunteer and supporter Mark Eustis reports from Kent Island, Maryland on the upcoming Stars & Stripers event on Maryland’s Eastern Shore.

Every year the local Kent Island community on Maryland’s Eastern Shore donates their guiding skills, boat time, marina space, and bushels of seafood for an invite-only day of saltwater fly fishing expressly for PHWFF participants and their families. PHWFF programs from up and down the East Coast meet at the Stars & Stripers to spend a day chasing Striped Bass, Bluefish, Sea Trout, and Spanish Mackerel from light-tackle center-console boats, captained by professional guides and local experts.

stars-and-stripers-logoHosted at Dominion Marina, in Chester, MD the event starts near dawn with a hot breakfast and ends after the fishing with an afternoon seafood feast full of steamed crabs, smoked fish, fried clams, barbeque, hot dogs, burgers, beans…and pie. Like all PHWFF events, we’re an all-volunteer group donating our time and effort to make sure these dozens of folks are welcomed, have a great day fishing on the Chesapeake, and are fed well in Eastern Shore seafood style. This year we expect over 150 participants, guides, volunteers and local community supporters will join us.

Stars & Stripers is backed by the local marine trades, working watermen, and local communities, and are deeply grateful for the direct support from Eastern Shore civic associations like the Kent Island Elks and American Legion 278, the Grasonville VFW 7464, Centreville American Legion 18, Queenstown American Legion 296…and dozens of private supporters and donors. Thank you, we couldn’t do it without your help.

So if you’re a PHWFF program member and you’d like to throw some flies at Striped Bass and saltwater gamefish – then feast on seafood under the big tent at the end of the day, reach out and let us know – we need your commitment now to help us lock in schedules, arrange for support boats, and plan our logistics. If you’re traveling from a distance, we can recommend reasonably priced hotels in the area. Online Registration is open now –  https://fs30.formsite.com/ProjectHealingWaters/form8/index.html and will close August 2nd so don’t delay, sign up now.
