“It was another fantastic day for the veterans on the Muskegon Rover near Newaygo, Michigan. It was the 5th annual fall fishing trip on the Muskegon River near Newaygo, MI. for the Battle Creek VAMC Program. Nine guides and their boats, gear, and eighteen veterans took to the water fly fishing for salmon, steelhead, trout or smallies. The weather was overcast with a slight wind which made the casting a challenge for the mostly newcomers to fly fishing. Coupled with low waters made the fishing a challenge, too. Yet, with the guides help and the sheer veteran determination, fish were caught. Dustin Baker shows off his nice salmon, the only keeper of the day.

Everything else was catch-and-release. The trip is a six hour float with a box lunch and water. Despite the challenges the vets appreciated the experience and the day-on-the-water. PHWFF is thankful for the contributions of the guides and the volunteers from their sponsor Kalamazoo Valley Chapter of TU.”
