We’re pleased to announce that our 10th Annual Fly Tying Competition is just around the corner! Starting on August 1, 2022, veteran participants in the Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing program will begin submitting their incredible fly entries in this fun, annual competition.
The 10th Annual Fly Tying Competition is a great educational and therapeutic annual program that has grown each year since its inception in 2012. For ten years now, the competition has provided the disabled veterans we serve with a means to further their therapeutic experience by giving them the opportunity to showcase their fly tying skills and creativity in a fun contest
The Fly Tying competition is open to all current PHWFF participants and this year we have added a Veteran Ambassador Category for participants who are also registered as volunteers! The competition will feature four categories (Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced, and Veteran Ambassador) and all flies will be judged by a public voting round (October 4 – 13, 2022), and a finals round conducted by a panel of experts (October 14 – 18, 2022). Winners will be announced on October 20, 2022 at www.projecthealingwaters.org.
The four separate categories for this fun competition to give all the veterans we serve a shot at taking home a prize! The Beginner Category is for participants new to fly-tying with under two years tying experience. The Intermediate Category is for participants with 2-5 years of tying experience. Participants with over five years of tying experience can enter into the Advanced Category. New for 2022, the Veteran Ambassador Category is open to participants who also volunteer with PHWFF and includes any level of fly tying experience. PHWFF will recognize the top three flies in each category and winners will receive an Orvis gift card and an awards plaque commemorating their achievement.
The Fly Tying Competition wouldn’t be possible without all those volunteers who contribute their time, talents, and expertise to provide a meaningful and therapeutic experience for our Nation’s disabled veterans.
We are thrilled and eager to see all the beautiful and innovative flies submitted by our talented participants this year! We’ll be sharing much more about this fun, restorative program in the coming weeks.
All skill levels are welcome and encouraged to enter by October 1, 2022. The public judging rounds will take place at www.projecthealingwaters.org.
