Now in it’s fourth year, The Smoky Mountain Grand Slam Challenge is an annual fly fishing tournament and banquet held to support Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing and the thousands of injured and disabled veterans we serve annually. It will be held October 6-7, 2017 in greater Knoxville, TN.
We’re excited to announce that John Becker, the Knoxville, TN celebrity news anchor and avid fly fisher, will be emceeing this years Smoky Mountain Grand Slam banquet! John’s commitment to veterans in the Knoxville area has made a tremendous impact on the lives of many of our most worthy. John was awarded an Emmy award for a piece he produced and reported tied to him embedding with Army National Guard troops in Iraq in 2004. John has received 3 Edward R Murrow Awards for his journalism, most notably two for his Service and Sacrifice Series at WBIR. John has also been acknowledged with the Civilian Award from the ETMAC organization and also the Lester Speeks Award by the American Legion Post 2 in Knoxville, TN. John was unknowingly instrumental to the success of Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing in Knoxville, TN because of his Service and Sacrifice piece featuring Jessica Callihan after her victory in the PHWFF Mossy Creek Invitational in 2013.
The weekend begins with the Smoky Mountain Grand Slam Banquet at The Foundry in Knoxville, TN. In addition to Mr. Becker, renowned angler and fly tier Kelly Galloup will return to share his bountiful wisdom and humor as the featured celebrity angler and speaker.
