9b946abd-cf5e-49d7-9d79-6b3aaff95316May 4, 2016 brought the Wilkes-Barre, PA Program to the Indian Mountain Rod & Gun Club in Kresgeville, PA for a day of fly fishing and a very special presentation. The club has been the annual site of their May and August fishing outings for the past seven years.

“This club found out about our program midway through our first fishing season eight years ago, and hosted us during our second year.  This has been the annual site for our May and August fishing outings for the last seven years.  The club has its own trout hatchery on Dotter’s Creek which runs through their property.  They generously stock the stream before our events with over 100 fish, many in the 16” range, and also some in the 20-24” size.  The members are always willing to show our Vets the hatchery and how they raise the trout.

This is always a very popular event for our Veterans. The members of Indian Mountain are very gracious hosts and make us feel very welcome.  Because it is so enjoyable a day, we usually have between 50-60 people in attendance.  Dotter’s Creek runs through the property and there are many holes that hold the trout. The access is very easy for our vets and they do not need to wade the stream.  The club has a clubhouse with a full kitchen, bathrooms, and a large dining hall, all which they make available for our use.

The highlight of the day was one of our Veterans, Mike Brojakowski was selected to receive an all terrain wheelchair.  This Trac chair was made possible by a very generous gift.  We are most grateful to the donors of the Trac chair, the gentleman who delivered it from Michigan, Ed Humbert, our RC Skip Hughes who came from Erie to be in attendance, Indian Mountain Rod & Gun Club, who stocked trout and allowed us to fish their club, and Baut Studios, Inc, who donated the luncheon meal and refreshments for the event.

Many of our Vets had tears of joy for their friend Mike.  The Trac chair will bring new outdoor adventures to Mike that he was not able to enjoy since his injury in Vietnam.  He already had many plans for his new Trac chair within minutes of receiving it.  While his injuries were very traumatic and life changing events,  this new Trac chair was a positive life changing event.” – Heide Cebrick, Deputy Regional Coordinator Pennsylvania.
