The Week that Was at Project Healing Waters at Coatesville VAMC

We had a doozy of a week at the Vet’s Medical Center: 10 vets! Two were engaged in building rods and seven tying flies. By our standards that’s pretty much a full house:
We also had the pleasure of three ladies, all prospective volunteers, from Sikorsky. This is the first time any of us can remember our Program Lead, Ken VanGilder, leapt at the chance to demonstrate his fly tying prowess. Go figure:
Through the persistence of Bob Klinger and Jim Clark we finally got a rolling tool chest for storage of our threads, vises, feathers, furs, hooks & tying tool kits. To put it lightly , the boys were thrilled! This idea was hatched at our sister program at West Bradford and will help greatly in organizing the mess we’ve accumulated for the vets.
This specialty fly of the week, brought to us by Thad Nowakowski, was the dreaded mop fly. There won’t be a lot of dusting at the Nowakowski’s this week but all for a good cause:
This Weekend
On Saturday, March 4th we’re taking about a dozen vets to the Lancaster Fly Show. If you care to volunteer as a “vet-buddy” please email Ken VanGilder right away: kenvangilder@gmail.com
Thanks to each of you near and far. You’re the engine that keeps us going and growing.
