The  3rd Annual Veterans Outdoor Family Day was attended by more than 200 Veterans and their families on April 14, 2018.   This annual event featured more than a dozen organizations in an effort to provide opportunities for veterans to experience outdoor activities, help veterans connect with other veterans, and assist veterans in integrating within the local civilian community.

Activities included hands on equine learning demonstrations, Tai Chi, Fly Fishing instruction, Acupuncture and Chinese body work, kids games and more.  The event was offered free to veteran students of Texas State University and their families.  Our San Antonio/San Marcos, Texas Program was there teaching fly tying and fly casting.  PHWFF San Antonio/San Marcos, Texas Program lead Mike Schlimgen share a video, photos and a few words about this special day below.

“Military veterans, and their families, deserve to have a fun day at a horse ranch, with food and games for all ages. Plus, they deserve to connect with a dozen or so organizations that are committed to helping veterans be healthy, prosperous, and productive. Our Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing team conducted fly tying, and fly casting lessons, to military veterans, and their family members on Saturday. Restoration Ranch rehabilitates abused and neglected horses, with the help of military veterans. It is awe inspiring to see the results. At the end of the day, we all enjoyed a delicious BBQ supper.  We pray that our veterans felt the love and respect they deserve. Also, we hope they follow up on these fantastic opportunities, and enjoy the benefits they provide.”
