Recently, guest speaker Dillon Given, Manager of Ponderay/Sandpoint’s North Forty Fly Shop, spent time with the veterans of the PHWFF Spokane, WA Program imparting his knowledge of the local fisheries and their effective fly patterns. He demonstrated his skills at the Fly Tying Class held at the VA Outreach Center in Spokane Valley on November 10th, 2016.
Dillon showcased some local items and talked about areas in the INLAND NORTHWEST that his clients fish and what they use. He demonstrated and taught how to tie some of his favorite trout style flies. One was his own creation that he hadn’t named, but was a favorite because of it’s versatility, but even more… its effectiveness!
Each participant was able to follow along with his step-by-step instructions with ease. His comfortable demeanor made it easy to ask questions and one question always seemed to lead to another.
The second fly that Dillon demonstrated was the Rocky Mountain Mint by the Montana Fly Company. .It was a lively, fun and educational time for all those who tied that day. We also had some great volunteers assisting. Thank you all for sharing your time and talents with us!
