Phil Johnson Exceptional Leadership Award

The Board of Trustees of Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing (PHWFF) takes great pleasure in presenting the Patriot Award to Steve and Barbara Lafflam, for their exceptional support and dedication to Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing since 2014.

Through their commitment to the PHWFF mission, vision, and core values, Steve and Barbara elevated Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing’s impact across the Rocky Mountain Northeast Region.  As true patriots, they recognized the positive impact that Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing Programs provide to all disabled veterans.  As volunteers, Steve and Barbara selflessly committed their time, their resources, and their influence to enable Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing, Inc. to serve additional participants and to provide the resources to support them – thereby helping to create a community where our nation’s disabled veterans can heal.

Steve and Barbara began as volunteers in the Rocky Mountain Northeast Region in 2014.  From 2014 to 2017, they hosted regional outings for more than 60 participants in West Yellowstone, Montana.  Each year, Steve and Barbara contact the West Yellowstone Chamber of Commerce, local lodging, and businesses to secure support for the outings.  Their efforts ensure that the outings represent a complete community effort to support our noble cause.

Additionally, each year, Steve and Barbara enable over $15,000.00 in local In-Kind donations for the West Yellowstone outings.  Their combined effort resulted in over $60,000.00 worth of In-Kind donations over the past four years.  They also personally donate over $3000.00 worth of In-Kind donations each year as well.  Their son, Andrew, also volunteers his time to serve as the Head Chef for the entire event.  Steve and Barbara graciously open their home for group meetings as well as a place to enjoy family-style meals.

Their combined effort also includes a Bob Jacklin Casting Clinic, a day of fly fishing at the exclusive and private Sheridan Ranch in Idaho, and an additional fly fishing outing in the Yellowstone National Park.

The Board of Trustees of Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing, Inc. is proud to bestow on Steve and Barbara Lafflam the Patriot Award for their tireless and extraordinary service to our organization and to those wounded, ill, and injured servicemen and servicewomen and disabled veterans whom this organization serves.
