Tuesday, November 7, 2017 saw the first annual presentation of the “Blizzard’s Fancy Service Award” at the monthly fly tying session of the PHWFF Roanoke/New River Valley Program. A total of 41 participants and volunteers showed up to not just tie flies but to also honor this year’s recipient of the award: Kathy Mueller the Acting Program Lead. She graciously accepted the award from Jake Blizzard to resounding applause of those assembled.
Kathy has done so much for this very large program and has kept a steady hand on the tiller for over a year. Besides receiving the framed award, Jake Blizzard also presented Kathy with a beautiful custom-built 6 weight fly rod. Hans Loberg presented Kathy with a hand-made wooden fly box made of walnut with brass fittings. Jake’s family was in attendance and expressed sincere thanks to Kathy for carrying the load of one of Virginia’s largest programs. A highlight of the meeting was seeing the approval of all those present at this years recipient and how they all personally expressed their thanks and congratulations to Kathy upon conclusion of the presentation.
The program is very large and having a meeting space that can accommodate all the participants and volunteers is critical. We’d like to extend our continued thanks to The DAV Chapter 3 for their generosity and graciousness in allowing PHWFF to use their Community Hall for the past three years.
