Vols for Veterans support Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing

Vols for Veterans is a group of five students from The University of Tennessee. The group has been working extensively in raising money for Project Healing Waters, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that assists veterans with their emotional and physical rehabilitation through specific activities such as fly-fishing, fly-tying, and rod-building.

“In the past two weeks, donations to Vols for Veterans have increased substantially. This has allowed them to reach over 80% of their goal, while giving our organization an additional means of exposure”, says Steve Thompson, Program Lead for Project Healing Waters of Knoxville, Tennessee. This growth is directly correlated with the numerous campaign strategies that have been implemented, such as an online crowd-funding platform, and an on-site fundraiser at Hexagon Brewery on December 2, 2017.

Project Healing Waters’ is dependent on charitable donations and the help of numerous partners, organizations and foundations to conduct their programs and provide all fly fishing, fly tying and rod building materials to veterans participants free of charge.  “This is why Vols for Veterans has organized these two fundraisers in the effort to raise money for this incredible organization and its dedication to the veterans it serves. We can’t forget those who paid the ultimate sacrifice”, states David Authier, VP of Vols for Veterans.

Vols for Veterans was founded on the passion to address an on-going concern regarding our veterans. Every team member in this group comes from a family with a military background. Consequently, the sacrifices of their relatives have directly sparked a desire and commitment to support the disabled veterans of Knoxville. They believe that this campaign has the ability to single handedly enrich the lives of disabled veterans by providing them hope, companionship, and a new perspective on a life, which is free from their present afflictions and ills.
