Halifax, Virginia, April 20, 2023 – The Ward Burton Wildlife Foundation (WBWF) and Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing, Inc. (PHW) are proud to announce their partnership and shared objective to provide Veterans with unique and memorable experiences in the outdoors. Project Healing Waters will serve as a primary Veteran outreach partner for future WBWF Veteran outreach endeavors, providing PHW participants with opportunities to participate in restorative outdoor outreach opportunities throughout the year on WBWF properties.
Late in 2022, leadership for both organizations met as a result of a shared partnership with The Greenbrier Resort in White Sulphur Springs, WV. It was during a visit to the resort that leaders were able to meet and quickly identify a common goal of leveraging the great outdoors and outdoor focused activities as a tool to provide our service men and women with an opportunity to come together and continue their healing journeys.
WBWF is thrilled to be partnering with Project Healing Waters. Their organization has already made a difference in so many lives, and we’re grateful to have the opportunity to work alongside them to host and provide unique outdoor experiences to their Veteran groups at our foundation properties. We take seriously the opportunity to serve these men and women who have given so much for our country and having the chance to do so all while passing on knowledge about the importance of stewardship of our natural resources and educate on our land management and wildlife habitat best practices, is truly a win-win.
Ward Burton, President and Founder of The Ward Burton Wildlife Foundation.
We are incredibly excited to be partnering with WBWF, and to work with Ward Burton and his outstanding team. While Ward’s a legend in NASCAR, part of his legacy will be his personal and direct commitment to conservation and preserving our natural resources so generations can continue to enjoy and thrive in the outdoors. Our partnership enables us to expand our commitment to our Veterans and provide a pathway to resiliency along their own healing journeys. For us, it’s more than just fly fishing: it’s about connectedness and community, and this partnership with WBWF will strengthen our ability to accomplish our respective missions, and amplify the impact of both organizations.
John “Saint” Langford, CEO of Project Healing Waters.
On April 10th, a group of 8 veterans and 4 volunteers from Project Healing Waters joined The Ward Burton Wildlife Foundation staff and volunteers for a 3 day adventure on one of their properties located in Halifax, Virginia. In addition to striper fishing on the Staunton River, the group enjoyed shared meal time and fellowship.
In the coming months, the groups look forward to announcing additional events and opportunities to bring Veterans together on WBWF properties on a regular basis.
