September 20, 2016 La Plata, MD – The partnership between Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing and Reel Recovery has entered its second year and added new collaborative retreats in Colorado, Texas, and Virginia to offer increased therapeutic angling opportunities for male veterans in the cancer recovery process by introducing them to the healing properties of nature and the sport of fly fishingProject Healing Waters Fly Fishing (PHWFF), a nonprofit that supports disabled active military and veterans through fly fishing, is working closely with Reel Recovery, to give veterans in the cancer recovery process the opportunity to enjoy the healing properties of nature and fly fishing. The Reel Recovery program employs fly fishing in a safe, supportive environment for participants to explore their personal experiences of cancer with others who share their stories to improve the lives of the men they serve. It is through these parallel activities and peer support that PHWFF veteran participants and cancer survivors will have new opportunities to heal.
Due to the successful first year of this therapeutic partnership, PHWFF and Reel Recovery has expanded retreat opportunities to male veterans in cancer recovery process by hosting three joint retreats in 2016: September 30 at Bar Lazy J Ranch in Kremmling, CO; October 26 at Rose River Farm in Syria, VA; and November 1 in Waring, TX. Each retreat is offered at no-cost to the participants and will be led by professional facilitators and expert fly fishing instructors.
