The 5th Annual Thornwood event was held this past weekend for Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing, Inc. (PHWFF) in West Virginia (WV). With 128 total in participants and volunteers, this was our biggest event yet! With support generated from Coronado Coal, the West Virginia Council of Trout Unlimited (WVCTU), and River Tactical Flies (RTF), we were able to provide a weekend a food, lodging, and fun for participants from programs in West Virginia and from the Fort Belvoir and Quantico programs.

The weather was beautiful, which means our participants were able to get out on the water and catch some awesome trout in some of the most amazing and gorgeous areas of West Virginia! River Tactical Flies provided a ton of education on fly tying, bugs, reading the water, casting and other topics, so participants were also able to learn about a ton of topics that will help them on the water and grow their love of fly fishing.

Brandon Rudisill, program lead for Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing – Clarksburg, was honored as the Volunteer of the Year for PHWFF WV. Chuck Holley, Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing – Huntington, and Ted Martin, Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing – Beckley, were both honored for their service as they step down from leadership roles.

Over the next few weeks, we’ll post some stories and other pictures from the weekend, but thanks to all of our supporters and volunteers for another amazing weekend! Keep the weekend of June 5-7, 2020 open for Thornwood 2020!
