On Saturday, September 11, the Pittsburgh Program of PHWFF headed out the to Ambridge Sportsman’s Club for a day of fishing, comradery, remembrance and recovering together.

Veterans gathered at the Ambridge District Sportsmen’s Association facilities north of Pittsburgh, where they were treated to a day of fishing in the club’s stocked lake, a catered lunch, and the camaraderie that always accompanies outings like this. The group consisted of approximately 28 veterans, PHWFF volunteers and club members who turned out to assist for the day.

Amanda Thompson, the Program Lead for the Pittsburgh program said it was great to watch new participants being helped by the more experienced fly-fisherman and also watching the veterans catch their first fish on a fly rod!

One of the most memorable moments was having Dr. Doug Matty and his wife Dea attend as guests!

Thompson would like to thank the Ambridge Sportsmen’s Club for always being a gracious host.

The veterans are all participants in Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing, a nationwide non-profit dedicated to the healing of disabled veterans through fly-fishing and associated activities. They all share a common bond, and enjoy getting together regularly to tie flies, build fly rods, and participate in outings where they can bond while sharing their experiences.
