9a7bd044-020f-484d-9ef8-83946d558c7aTrout Season opens on April 1st in New York State and with the offical start of trout fishing looming large in everyone’s minds, the PHWFF Syracuse Program used their regular meeting at Clear Path for Veterans as an opportunity to tie some new, effective patterns for early season fishing.

Beginning in January, 2014 the Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing, Inc (PHWFF) program in Syracuse, NY began meeting once-a-month at Clear Path for Veterans in Chittenango, NY.   This exciting new relationship, and meeting place, is a great compliment to the weekly classes held at the Syracuse VAMC each Friday.  It has also provided PHWFF Syracuse and Clear Path for Veterans  the opportunity to collectively further their positive impact on the local veterans community through offering restorative programs and services.

This particular meeting in late March was no different, with volunteers and participants old and new alike sharing fish tales, fly patterns, and a hearty canteen lunch provided free-of-charge to military service members and veterans.

Although it won’t be long before the official opening day of fishing is upon us, PHWFF Syracuse will actually be tying on April 1st instead of fishing!  The next meeting of the Syracuse PHWFF Program will be held on Friday April 1, 2016 at the Syracuse Veterans Affairs Medical Center at 2pm.  For additional information please visit the Programs Facebook Page: Project Healing Waters – Syracuse, NY Program

The flies tied will be reserved for a couple extra days as local streams are filed with a multitude of anglers, fishers, and curious parties on Opening Day proper.  Rather than be overwhelmed and frustrated by the crowded conditions, PHWFF Syracuse will be waiting until the “dust settles on the stream beds” before revisiting our favorite haunts as a group., but the flies are tied and we’re ready to roll!
