Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing and Casting for Recovery are partnering to offer a therapeutic retreat for female disabled veterans with breast cancer. This program introduces them to the healing properties of nature and fly fishing on April 21 – 23, 2017 at Harman’s Luxury Cabins in West Virginia.

Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing (PHWFF), a nonprofit that supports disabled active military and veterans through fly fishing, is working closely with another non-profit, Casting for Recovery (CfR), to give female disabled veterans in the cancer recovery process the opportunity to experience the therapeutic benefits of nature and fly fishing. The Casting for Recovery program provides a safe, supportive, non-clinical environment for participants to explore and share their personal cancer experiences with other women. The mission of CfR is to improve the lives of the women they serve. It is through these parallel activities and peer support that PHWFF/CfR veteran participants and cancer survivors will have new opportunities to heal.

“We are thrilled to be partnering with PHWFF on this ground-breaking initiative to help women with breast cancer who have served our country,” says Whitney Milhoan, CfR Executive Director. “It’s an honor and we hope this is the first of many joint programs with PHWFF”.

This retreat introduces women to the sport of fly fishing and a community to help provide support throughout their cancer journey and beyond. The educational component of both organizations missions’ couple perfectly with the therapeutic respite intrinsically embedded in nature and the sport of fly fishing.

“Our participants readily acknowledge that our commitment to them is about more than fly fishing,” says Todd Desgrosseilliers, PHWFF CEO, “our commitment represents a lifeline that connects them to each other in a long-term healing relationship – uniquely enabled through our core fly fishing programs – fly tying, fly rod building, education, and outings. We’re excited about our partnership with Casting for Recovery because it enables us expand our commitment to serve our Nation’s wounded, ill, injured active duty military and disabled veterans by providing physical and emotional rehabilitation.”

This new partnership provides an outstanding new venue for female PHWFF participants in the cancer recovery process to continue their journey of healing and recovery, while becoming involved with another like-minded community and organization.

Female disabled veterans with breast cancer will take part in the first joint retreat on April 21 -23, 2017 at Harman’s Luxury Cabins in West Virginia.  Retreats are offered at no-cost to the participants and are led by professional facilitators and expert fly-fishing instructors.
