Demand for our program services has increased during the COVID-19 pandemic. You can help ensure our programs provide vulnerable veterans with the support and community they need during these uncertain times through virtual meetings and peer-support from Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing programs across the country.

On Wednesday April 15 2020 at 6pm EST, veteran ambassador and professional fly tier SGT Lee Barbee, U.S. Army (ret) of Red,White and Blue Flies broadcasted a virtual fly tying class live on the Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing Facebook Page.  You can watch it below.

Lee will be broadcasting another virtual fly tying class on Wednesday April 22, 2020 at 6pm EST.  Take a look at our Virtual Events Calendar below to join one of these great virtual meetings!

This special virtual class was attended by over 3,500 people and disabled veteran participants from Georgia, Maryland, Massachusetts, South Carolina, Florida, Washington, Oregon, Pennsylvania, New York, Wyoming, Montana, Texas, North Carolina, Maine, New Jersey, Virginia, California, New Mexico, Connecticut, and more!  Lee taught (and tied) one of his signature patterns, “The Wood Duck Chuck” and shared his experiences with the PHWFF program.  To tie along, here’s what you’ll need to tie this awesome fly pattern:

  • Hook: Standard Nymph Hook
  • Thread: 18/0 nano silk
  • Tail: Wood Duck
  • Body: Wood Duck
  • Ribbing: Black tying wire
  • Thorax: yellow ostrich herl and natural squirrel dubbing
  • Wing case: Solarez Thin
  • Legs: Wood Duck

PROJECT HEALING WATERS VIRTUAL RESOURCES

With in-person program activities temporarily suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic, our programs are hosting virtual meetings on Program Facebook Pages, YouTube, and Messenger Video Chats to stay connected. Our new resource page highlights virtual opportunities, a calendar of events, sign-up forms, and resources to empower programs with the information they need.
