Volunteer leader Marcia Ely recounts a recent outing taken by the PHWFF Space Coast Program and the New Smyrna Program — both within our Florida Region.

On April 16th the Space Coast PHWFF and New Smyrna PHWFF groups were invited to fish at Randy Ringhaver’s Deer Creek property.  This 4000 acre piece of property has numerous fishing ponds so the veterans were able to practice or perfect their casting skills.
Although the day was a bit breezy and challenging to cast in, all of the volunteers and participants had a great time.  We arrived at 10 am, rigged up and got acquainted.  At 11:30 the property chef, Alan Deal, served an amazing lunch of smoked ribs, chicken, wings, coleslaw and baked beans.  He topped it off with some amazing banana pudding.  And no meal would be complete in the south without some sweet tea.
A good friend of our chapter, David Lambert, mentioned our program to Alan, who is a good friend of his.  Alan approached Mr. Ringhaver and he was very enthusiastic about bringing the veterans out.  The icing on the cake is that we are now invited to come out twice a year for this event.
