SFF members, John Craig, Terry Kirkpatrick, Ted Rich, Alan Sewell, and Tom Gadacz were kept busy getting veterans in and out of the kayaks, giving casting instructions, and trying our hand at catching. Got lots of casting practice that day. Peter Jonsson, VA Recreational Specialist, organized the outing, transportation and an excellent lunch.
We had a great turn out of veterans and some spouses. The weather was great with lots of sun and little wind. Catching was a little sparse but several of the veterans got a chance to try out the new rods they built under the guidance and strict specifications of master rod builder Alan Sewell.
Congratulations to all those who put in a lot of hard work building those beautiful rods. Wow! It was awesome – fly fishing with a rod you built and with some flies you tied. Can’t get any better than that. Peter provided a great lunch and we enjoyed trading fish stories (lied a lot). Several continued fishing into the afternoon.
It was a special day for our veterans fly fishing with rods they built and it was a pleasure for us fly fishers to support the men and women to whom we owe so much!
