The PHW Spotlight is our way of shining a bright light on those members of our PHW family whose accomplishments and contributions inspire us all.

These individuals, and their stories, are an essential part of the healing journey happening for Veterans across the country. Project Healing Waters transcends fly fishing and these Spotlights are a glimpse into what is happening throughout our programs. We are honored to share these with you each week.

Lea Gryk – Volunteer

Project Healing Waters Program:

Hampton Roads, Virginia Program, though I also assist when needed for outings with the Tidewater, VA Program.

How Long Have You Been Volunteering with Project Healing Waters?

I have been volunteering with the Programs since January 2019.

What Inspired You To Volunteer with Project Healing Waters?

I learned about my local Project Healing Waters Program and being an Air Force Brat, I wanted to combine my newfound love of fly fishing and the opportunity to help the Veteran community learn about fly fishing.

What Is Your Favorite Activity With Project Healing Waters? Why?

The regular meetings! It is such a family atmosphere with lots of laughter and camaraderie while learning to tie flies or build fly rods. We are building bonds that Veterans take with them whether it’s out on the water or getting together between meetings.

What Do You Look Forward To With Project Healing Waters In The Upcoming Year? Why?

Watching and assisting new participants build confidence as they successfully learn to tie flies, build their own fly rod, and then get out and catch a fish. The smiles and excitement are priceless!

The PHW Spotlight will publish each Friday morning on www.projecthealingwaters.org. Learn more about this inspiring series HERE
