NEWS & STORIES

The PHW Spotlight is our way of shining a bright light on those members of our PHW family whose accomplishments and contributions inspire us all.

These individuals, and their stories, are an essential part of the healing journey happening for Veterans across the country. Project Healing Waters transcends fly fishing and these Spotlights are a glimpse into what is happening throughout our programs. We are honored to share these with you each week.

Mark Whisenhunt – U.S. Army Veteran

When Did You Serve?

Project Healing Waters Program:

Wasilla, Alaska

How Long Have You Been Participating with Project Healing Waters?

Five years and counting, but I will continue as long as I can cast a fly!

Why Did You Join Project Healing Waters?

In 2018, a friend and fellow Veteran told me about the Project Healing Waters Program. Pun intended: I was hooked. It filled a void that I didn’t realize I had. I now never want to miss our gatherings and events in and around Wasilla.

What Is Your Favorite Activity With Project Healing Waters? Why?

Fly fishing and the peaceful feeling while outdoors on the lakes and rivers. It has been a therapy that I did not know I needed.

What Do You Look Forward To With Project Healing Waters In The Upcoming Year? Why?

I always look forward to interaction with fellow Veterans and the strong camaraderie that we share. While it’s hard to put into words the program’s full impact, it brings a type of peace and comfort to me being around those I call my brothers.

The PHW Spotlight will publish each Friday morning on www.projecthealingwaters.org. Learn more about this inspiring series HERE
