NEWS & STORIES

The Battle Creek VAMC program ends another successful year in 2016. Their 4th quarter volunteers gave 120 hours of their time to 58 participants, including 11 new participants. In December, the vets tied flies for Christmas ornaments for their tree or as gifts to others.

To start off the new year they celebrated the beginning of our 5th year. The celebration included our veterans, volunteers, friends and family, our host the Battle Creek VAMC, and our sponsor Kalamazoo Valley Chapter of TU. From the article released by the VAMC, “On January 16, 2017, Veterans celebrated the fifth anniversary of the Battle Creek VA Medical Center community partnership with Project Healing Waters – Fly Fishing. This group is dedicated to the physical and emotional rehabilitation of disabled active military service personnel and disabled Veterans through fly fishing and associated activities, including education and outings… “The potential health benefits, plus the fact that it can be a positive and fun leisure activity, make this a tremendous partnership for our Veterans,” said Kim Ziel, Lead Recreation Therapist….”. As a surprise the Battle Creek VAMC acknowledged our efforts with a Certificate of Appreciation. Ms. Randi May, wife of the original PL for the Battle Creek VAMC Program, Tim May, was present as well as immediate family members.
