Our Roanoke and New River Valleys Program held their monthly fly tying session on Tuesday, March 6 2018 at the DAV Community Hall in Salem, Virginia.  Acting Program Lead Kathy Mueller shares a report from the meeting below.

We had a large turnout of 32 tiers and liers which is beginning to be the normal number of attendees. Three tables were tying flies for the spring season, a fourth table demonstrating how to make twisted leaders, and a fifth table designed for our veterans who have a limited physical ability in tying flies.

Prior to starting, Kathy Mueller called for sign ups for our Cowpasture and Big Walker Creek fly fishing outings. She also outlined the long range schedule for day outings and overnight trips.

The highlight of the gathering was the Service Award presentation to Becky Hancock. Kathy Mueller, Acting Program Lead, recognized Becky Hancock with a service award for her dedicated assistance over the years with our blind male participant and disabled female participants. Her dedication to our veterans and program has been unfailing and selfless.  (see pictures of Becky and the presentation below).

I’d like to thank the DAV for their continued support in providing a wonderful meeting space for our Program, and the local TU Chapter #308 for their support of tying instructors and guides.
