Presented by Ropes & Gray, the 3rd Annual Healing on the Fly Boston is an evening in support of Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing and the thousands of disabled veterans they serve each year across the United States

Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing is honored to announce that Captain Dave Marciano of National Geographic TV’s Wicked Tuna will serve as Emcee during the Healing on the Fly-Boston Dinner Gala this October 22, 2019 at The Seaport Hotel in Boston, Massachusetts. Now in its 3rd year, Healing on the Fly Boston has raised over $260,000 since its inception in 2017 enabling hundreds of disabled veterans to benefit from a program recognized as an innovative leader and model in the field of therapeutic outdoor recreation for the disabled.

Captain Dave Marciano grew up fishing in Beverly, Massachusetts.  During high school he worked on his first boat, the Yankee Fleet – a charter fishing fleet that provided day fishing trips and whale watching excursions.  Following high school, Marciano continued working with the Yankee Fleet full-time and spent the winters with them in Key West, Florida.

After working for the fleet for a few years, Marciano earned his Captains license and decided to take the plunge and purchase his own boat – fulfilling a life-long goal.  Along the way he married Nancy and together they are raising three awesome kids – Angelica, Joseph, and Eva Rose.  The entire family enjoys fishing together (with Nancy holding a record for a striped bass in Massachusetts!).  Currently, Marciano owns the FV Hard Merchandise – a beautiful, sturdy 38 foot, Danielshead solid fiberglass Novia boat.

The FV Hard Merchandise is one of Gloucester’s traditional, old school, commercial fishing vessels, working year round to feed the Nation and are proud to be featured as part of the National Geographic Channel’s show “Wicked Tuna.” Wicked Tuna’ takes viewers into the unrelenting North Atlantic waters infamously spotlighted by the novel-turned-feature film `The Perfect Storm’, to follow captains who are relied upon by their families, their shipmates, and by Gloucester itself, to haul in boatloads of the large but elusive bluefin. The pressure to deliver is unforgiving – the fishing season is short and tuna populations are dwindling – but one “monstah” catch can reel in just as large of a payday.

Presented by Ropes & Gray, the evening also will feature a cocktail hour with silent auction, seated dinner, a short program featuring PHWFF veteran guest speakers John O’Connor and Mark Michaud – whose healing journeys with PHWFF has fostered their physical and emotional recovery.

For over a decade PHWFF has focused on healing those who serve.  It is through the tremendous contributions of supporters and volunteers nationwide that PHWFF served over 8,300 deserving members of our armed services in 2018.  To learn more about the event please visit https://projecthealingwaters.org/fundraisers/healing-on-the-fly-boston/
