Phil Johnson Exceptional Leadership Award

PROJECT HEALING WATERS FLY FISHING (PHWFF) takes great pleasure in presenting the Phil Johnson Exceptional Leadership Award to Roy Davidson for his dedicated and inspiring service to our organization from 2013 to 2020. During this period, his selfless efforts and extreme generosity were directly responsible for the growth and continuous improvement to the organization’s Winston-Salem Program in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

Roy led this exceptional program from its very beginning in spring of 2013 until 2020. During this time, he grew the Winston-Salem program to become one the PHWFF North Carolina Region’s largest – serving over 40 active participants. His caring leadership style inspired 37 volunteers to highest levels of achievement and professionalism in their commitment to the program’s participants. This resulted in numerous individual participant awards to include top three finishes in at least one category of the PHWFF National Rod Building Competition in five out of seven years; first and second place finishes in the Regional Casting Competition; and a PHWFF National Fly-tying Competition Champion.

Roy’s untiring dedication to our Cause and his unimpeachable character earned him the utmost in respect and admiration from participants and volunteers throughout the North Carolina region. Roy is the personification of selfless service to the organization, its participants, and its volunteers. He spent countless hours and sacrificed much of his personal time organizing meetings and educational classes, planning outings, participating in training events, and attending to administrative duties with the greatest of professionalism and attention to detail. He is a diligent promoter and recruiter with presentations on behalf of Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing at the Veteran’s Administration clinic, Rotary Club, Elks lodge, and various other civic organizations with evangelic enthusiasm. This passion led the Winston-Salem program to remarkable growth setting a high bar for other programs to aspire towards.

Roy’s dedication to our Core Values: Compassion, Accountability, Excellence, and Community allowed him to create an active and impactful program. He also provided the Program’s future leadership a firm foundation of excellence to build upon. This firmly establishes his legacy as an invaluable part of the Winston-Salem program, the North Carolina region, and the Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing organization.

His commitment to our Cause inspired all volunteers and participants involved in the program to become a stronger team and to build better friendships. All who know Roy will attest to the positive impact the program made on their lives and the role model of selfless devotion, mentoring, and leadership he provided to them. His tireless efforts created a community where our participants can heal.

Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing, Inc. is proud to bestow upon Roy Davidson the Phil Johnson Exceptional Leadership Award for his tireless and extraordinary service to our organization and to those wounded, ill, and injured servicemen and servicewomen and disabled veterans whom this organization serves.
