The San Francisco Program of Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing held its first overnight outing in over two years, on March 15-16. For two days six vet participants, accompanied by five volunteers and a professional guide, fished the Yuba River in the Sierra Nevada foothills northeast of Sacramento. Many trout were hooked, landed, and released (some did get away!), including a 23” steelhead, by the vets. The evening was spent enjoying dinner, swapping fish tales and camping around the campfire on the river’s rocky shore. Program volunteer Jeff French, who led the Yuba River trip, has plans for many more such outings for the vets in 2022.
