On June 2, the Bay Pines, Florida Program of PHWFF held their first casting class in over a year at Seminole Lake Park in Seminole, FL.
Program Lead Beccy Fortin, and volunteers Claude Neidlinger and Jonas Magnusson hosted veterans Wayne Watson, Jeff Hoberg, and Howard Passman and helped them to shake off the dust from the past year.
“This was our first outing since COVID-19 and although the turnout was small, everyone had a great time and learned a lot,” Fortin said. “We had two participants who had never casted before and they were doing wonderful by the end of the afternoon. Wayne improved tremendously after a year of not being able to fish.”
Fortin would like to welcome a a few new volunteers this year for the Bay Pines Program. Claude Neidlinger, a longtime PHWFF volunteer, has recently relocated to the Bay Pines area. Jonas Magnusson is a retired surgeon and certified casting instructor, and Dana Metts, a member of the American Legion Post 252 Auxiliary, and a volunteer with the local hospital.
Fortin would like to thank Jonas and Claude for running the class and helping the veterans gain confidence in their abilities.
On June 16, the group headed out again to Seminole Lake Park and Claude and Jonas had them doing double hauls by the end of the day!
