PHWFF Ohio Programs Meet Up at Rockwell Springs
On Wednesday, September 8, five Northern Ohio PHWFF programs met up at the Rockwell Springs Trout Club in Clyde, Ohio and had a wonderful day of fishing and comradery.
Over 70 participants and volunteers from Akron, Cleveland, Willoughby, Rocky River, and Sheffield Lake, Ohio joined forces to catch some fish, some sunshine, or both.
The conditions were perfect. Everyone started the day by saying the Pledge of Allegiance and then headed off to find the perfect spot to fish.

Willoughby Program Lead Diane Wantz said that this was the first joint outing since the fall of 2019, so it was wonderful to see so many familiar faces, plus some new ones as well.
“Since there was so much time in between our last joint outing, it was amazing to see the confidence level of some of the participants,” Wantz said. “It was obvious they had been working on their fly-tying, rod building and casting skills and were happy to share their progress with volunteers and peers.”
The Rockwell Springs outing originated with John Nouse and has occurred annually, with the exception of 2020, for six years. Wantz would like to thank the Rockwell trustees and members for opening up the venue and the delicious lunch that was provided. She would also like to give a special “Thank You” to Rockwell Springs Trout Club Members Bill and Jennifer Whelan for covering the costs.
“It was a pleasure speaking with Bill and Jen Whelan,” Wantz said. “They have always held veterans in the highest regard and now have an even better understanding of the PHWFF mission and core programs. The value of outings such as these are priceless, and we can’t thank them enough for their kindness and generosity.”
