Remembering SFC Brian Mancini, U.S. Army (ret)
“It is my sad and incredibly difficult task to let all of you know that Brian Mancini died suddenly yesterday, at his home. I am personally devastated, since from the days that I taught Brian casting on the lawn of the old Walter Reed, I have considered him a dear friend, a friendship that bridged the generations and developed such that we called one another ‘brother’.. We shared many good times together fishing and working to make the lives of disabled veterans better, more fulfilling. Rarely was there a conversation that I had with Brian that he was not planning or doing something to help his fellow disabled veterans, perhaps at his own personal expense. He was a person of great energy and compassion, a compelling force, always giving. I will miss him dearly. Goodbye Brother. RIP.” – Ed Nicholson, Founder and President PHWFF
Brian Mancini was a beloved member of the Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing family and he will be sorely missed.
Brian was a medically retired Sergeant First Class, Combat Wounded Veteran who served as a Combat Medic with two tours in Baghdad, Iraq. He served over 12 years of Military Service in the United States Army. He was the recipient of two Purple Hearts, the Combat Action Badge, Combat Medical Badge, Air Assault Badge and Flight Medic Badge. He was medically retried in April of 2011 and returned to work in the community where he was born. Brian was a proud Phoenix native and enjoyed volunteering and advocating for healthier Veterans care options and transitional needs, and was the founder of the Honor House. The Honor House’s mission is to provide a complete transitional package that utilizes resources from the community to meet therapeutic and transitional needs of our Veterans affected by combat. He enjoyed spending time with his family, friends and Fly Fishing.
His funeral service was held on Tuesday, March 14, 2017 at Christ Church of the Valley in Peoria, AZ. Ed Nicholson shared a remembrance and tribute at the service: The Brian I Knew
