On June 3, 2017 the 4 Our Freedom 5k race was held at the University of Virginia Research Park.  For the third year in a row, we have been privileged to both benefit from, and be a part of, this annual foot-race that aims to raise community awareness and support for select non-profits who serve local veterans and military personnel in Virginia.  This year, we were honored to stand alongside Wintergreen Adaptive Sports, Operation First Response, Living Free, and Parade Rest Virginia as beneficiaries of this noble community event.

Alongside PHWFF Chief Program Officer, Megan Pierce, many PHWFF volunteers, donors and participants came out to enjoy a fun day of running and other activities provided by other local non-profits in the community.  The post-race Expo area provided the opportunity for us, and all participating non-profits, to have an informational tent and share the work they do throughout Virginia and within the Charlottesville community.  At the PHWFF tent, individuals got to watch PHWFF volunteers tie some beautiful flies and a few lucky individuals took home the finished products.

“The highlight was seeing all of the families coming together to support our military veterans and their families in the local Charlottesville community.  The winner of the race was pushing a double stroller with 2 kids, quite an accomplishment!   I’d like to thank UVA and ParadeRest for hosting an event to support the military veterans and their families.  The support of local community events are so important to non-profits who are working every day to make a difference in the lives of those who have served.”Megan Pierce, Chief Program Officer

A few weeks after the race, a luncheon was held in Charlottesville, VA to present the beneficiary organizations with proceeds from this years event.  We are pleased, and honored, to announce that $10,000 was raised on behalf of our cause this year.  PHWFF Chief Operating Officer David Folkerts, alongside PHWFF Charlottesville, VA Program Lead Jon Page and a veteran participant, attended the event and were given the opportunity to address those assembled and thank UVA and ParadeRest for their great support of our cause and the veterans we serve.
